Box Score Greensboro, NC (12/02/00) -- Senior Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) scored a game-high 15 points and became Guilford's 10th 1,000-point scorer as the Quakers defeated visiting Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball Saturday afternoon. The 57-point spread marked the third-largest winning margin in Guilford history.
Miller entered the game with 985 career points and reached the 1,000-point milestone with 6:07 left on a lay-up from rookie A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead). She becomes Guilford's first 1,000-point scorer since Marija Preimats '98 and ranks 10th on the Quakers' career scoring chart.
Miller's milestone highlighted an impressive Guilford (2-1, 1-1 ODAC) win that featured excellent defense and balanced scoring. The Quakers scored the game's first 22 points before Randolph-Macon Woman's College freshman center Meagan Moore (Spartanburg, SC/Spartanburg) scored for the Wildcats (1-3, 0-2 ODAC) with 8:50 left in the first half. The Quakers converted the Wildcats' 21 first-half turnovers into 17 points and held a 36-9 halftime lead.
Guilford outscored Randolph-Macon Woman's College 27-4 in the opening nine minutes of the second half, which swelled the host's lead to 50 points with 11:12 to play. Miller scored six points during the run. The Quakers made 23 of 35 shots (65.7%) in the second half.
Senior forward Marlo Biernacki (Alden, NY/Akron Central) (15 points) shared game-high scoring honors with Miller and grabbed a game-high nine boards. Sophomore center Shannon Underwood (Niantic, CT/East Lyme) scored a career-high 13 points off the bench, including 11 in the second half. Rookie forward Jackie Hardenbergh (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI) matched her career high with 11 points in her first collegiate start. She made five of seven shots from the floor, snared four rebounds and led the Quakers with four assists.
Rookie guard Amy Dameron (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland) scored nine points and sophomore guard Meg Hancock (Richmond, KY/Madison Central) added eight markers to lead the Wildcats.
The Quakers play crosstown rival Greensboro in the Greensboro Coliseum this Tuesday night (12/5) at 5:30 p.m. Randolph-Macon Woman's College hosts Roanoke Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
