GUILFORD WOMEN DOWN GREENSBORO, 69-51

Greensboro, NC (12/05/00) -- Senior forward Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) scored 11 of her game-high 13 points in the second half as Guilford claimed a 69-51 women's basketball win over crosstown rival Greensboro in the Greensboro Coliseum Tuesday night. The Quakers' (3-1) strong defensive effort limited the Pride (1-5) to 29.2 percent shooting from the floor and forced 21 turnovers, which led to 14 Guilford points.

Greensboro scored the first five points of the game before Guilford awoke with a 9-3 run to grab the lead midway through the first half. The opening period featured five ties and three lead changes before the Quakers closed out the half with a 10-2 run fueled by four points apiece from junior Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) and rookie Angela Hunnewell (Scarsdale, NY/Eastchester).

Miller scored six of Guilford's first six points in the second half as the Quakers opened an early 12-point advantage. The margin stayed between nine and 13 points for most of the second half before Guilford concluded the game with a 15-6 spurt that featured five points from rookie Nicole McCrory (Charlotte, NC).

Evans added 12 points and a game-high eight boards. Rookie guard Dara Burke (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's School) added 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench, both career highs, for the Quakers. Senior Karin Johnson (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and Tricia Ziegler (Harrisonburg, VA/Harrisonburg) paced the Pride with 12 points apiece.



The Quakers are off until December 19 when it plays Hanover (IN) in the opening round of the adidas/DII Desert Shootout in Las Vegas.
