Box Score

Greensboro, NC (02/17/01) -- Freshman guard Kate Goodman (Salisbury, NC/West Rowan) scored 10 of her game-high 15 points in the second half to lead Guilford past visiting Emory & Henry Saturday afternoon, 55-42, in the regular-season finale for both Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams. Guilford (18-6, 16-4 ODAC) moved into sole possession of second place in the conference standings with its school-record 16th ODAC victory headed into Sunday's final day of league play.

The Wasps' (18-6, 15-5 ODAC) Danielle Moore (Wytheville, VA/Fort Chiswell) knocked down a three-pointer to give the guests a 32-27 edge with 16:10 left in the game, but the Quakers answered with an 8-2 run and grabbed a 35-34 edge on freshman Jennie Keichline's (Cary, NC/East Chapel Hill) layup with 10:58 left. The teams traded baskets before Guilford reeled off eight straight points and claimed a 47-39 lead with 5:56 left. Emory & Henry drew no closer than five points the rest of the way.

Guilford's defense and rebounding proved the difference as the Wasps connected on just six of 20 second-half field-goal attempts and finished with their lowest point total of the season. Junior guard Karen Pursifull's (Floyd, VA/Floyd County) three-pointer with 10:06 remaining gave the Wasps their last lead of the game (39-37) and marked their final field goal. Emory & Henry missed its last 16 shots from the floor, including seven three-pointers, and had just four offensive boards in the last 10 minutes. Guilford guard Dara Burke (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's School) made six of her game- and career-high eight steals in the second period. Five of her thefts led directly to 10 Guilford points, including both of Burke's baskets.

Guilford forward Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) scored six of her 10 points in the second half and added a team-high seven rebounds in her final regular-season home appearance. Junior guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett School) scored 10 points and freshman Jackie Hardenbergh (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI) added six points for the Quakers. Guilford's reserves outscored their Wasps' counterparts, 28-11, and helped the Quakers enjoy a 14-0 advantage in fast-break points.

Emory & Henry junior guard Kelly Smith (Duffield, VA/Rye Cove) netted a team-high 13 points and helped the Wasps rally from a seven-point first-half deficit to take a 25-23 halftime lead. She notched a double-double with a game-high 10 boards and led the Wasps with three steals.

Both teams await the outcome of Sunday's (2/18) final two ODAC games to determine their seeding for the league tournament, which starts Thursday (2/22) in the Salem (VA) Civic Center.
