Box Score The Guilford College Quakers wasted little time Thursday as they scored four first-half goals in a 5-0 win over Averett in women's soccer action at the Averett North Campus. The loss ends Guilford's (7-7-1) four-match losing streak.
Sophomore Kimberly Mullen scored twice in the first 14 minutes of the contest to give Guilford an early lead. Mullen fielded an Alissa VanZee-Philips pass and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. She added her second goal of the game in the 14th minute as she scored in the open field on a Lori Layton assist for the 2-0 advantage.
VanZee-Phillips added a Megan Barolet-Fogarty assisted goal in the 25th minute, and Layton added a score for the 4-0 Quakers' halftime lead.
Averett (2-11-2) allowed only one goal in the second stanza as Barolet-Fogarty added the final score with only one second remaining on the game clock for the 5-0 Quaker victory.
Averett goalkeeper Julie Pope had nine saves in the losing effort, while facing 28 Guilford shots. Guilford freshman Danielle Brisotti made four stops for her sixth shutout of the season.
