Senior Jennifer Pue-Gilchrist Named ODAC Player of the Year

Box Score

Pue-Gilchrist led Guilford with 17 kills, 22 digs and seven blocks in her final college match. Junior middle hitter A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) added eight kills, 15 digs and six blocks. Junior Tracy Slaughter (Durham, NC/Northern Durham) set up a team-high 39 assists in place of starting setter Bethany Stubbs (Easley, SC/Wren), who could not set due to an eyesight problem. Stubbs played mostly as a server and had a club-best seven aces.

Pue-Gilchrist becomes Guilford's second ODAC Player of the Year in school history, joining Brenda Davis '94, who won the prize in 1993. Also a first-team pick in 2001, Pue-Gilchrist entered the match as the Quakers' leader in kills, hitting percentage and digs. The team captain won consecutive ODAC Player of the Week awards September 23 and September 30 and had six matches with 20 or more kills.

Pue-Gilchrist started the season in possession of nine school records, including career digs and service aces, and set Guilford's season kills per game and career digs per game marks this year. She put away 1,177 career kills (second only to Davis in Guilford history), despite spending most of her rookie year playing setter. A second team all-conference selection in 2000, Pue-Gilchrist becomes the Quakers' first three-time All-ODAC pick since Laura Nelson '99 and the third three-time all-league honoree in school history.

Coach Chuck McCracken's Quakers lose only Pue-Gilchrist to graduation from this season's squad and look forward to nine returning letter winners in 2003.
