GUILFORD POSTS 75-53 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WIN OVER EMORY & HENRY

Greensboro, NC (01/22/03) -- Sophomore forward Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan) led four Guilford players in double figures with 21 points and eight rebounds in the Quakers' 75-53 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win over Emory & Henry Saturday.

Guilford (6-4, 4-2 ODAC) used a strong defensive effort to notch its school-record 16th consecutive home win and sixth triumph in seven games. The Quakers scored 37 points off of 30 Emory & Henry turnovers and limited the Wasps to 31.8 percent shooting from the floor.

Hill tallied 14 points and freshman guard Jennifer King (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County) netted 12 of her 16 points in the first half as the Quakers built a 42-29 halftime edge. Emory & Henry (5-5, 3-2 ODAC) had 21 first-half miscues, which led to 26 Guilford points and offset its 53.3 percent (8-15) field-goal shooting. The Wasps held their final lead (24-23) after junior guard Dawn Chewning's (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) three-pointer with 5:45 left in the half. Guilford ended the period on a 19-5 run that included six points by King.

Junior guard Danielle Moore (Fort Chiswell, VA/Fort Chiswell) scored the second half's first basket to pull the Wasps within 11 points, but the opponents drew no closer. The Quakers held Emory & Henry to 20.7 field-goal shooting in the second half and enjoyed a 22-8 advantage in points in the paint. Emory & Henry starting forwards Lindsay McKnight (Greeneville, TN/Greeneville) and Erin Connelly (Morganton, NC/Freedom) were plagued with foul trouble and combined for two points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in the second half.

Guilford sophomore forward Lindsey Johnson (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) scored a career-high 14 points and shared game-high rebounding honors with eight. Junior guard Nicole McCrory (Charlotte, NC/East Mecklenburg) added 10 points and a game-high three assists for the Quakers.

Moore paced the Wasps with 19 points and knocked down three three-pointers. Chewning also had three trifectas and scored 11 points.

Guilford hosts Hollins Sunday (1/12) in a 3:00 pm ODAC contest rescheduled from December. The Wasps open a five-game homestand against league-leading Lynchburg Tuesday (1/14) at 7:00 pm.
