HILL, KING LIFT GUILFORD TO ODAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WIN OVER ROANOKE

Greensboro, NC (01/08/03) -- Sophomore forward Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan) scored a season-high 23 points and added 12 rebounds in Guilford's 66-58 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Roanoke Wednesday. The Quakers' (5-4, 3-2 ODAC) fifth win in six games extends their home winning streak to 15.

Hill scored eight straight points during a decisive 17-3 Guilford run early in the second half. Roanoke (5-3, 3-2 ODAC) led by as many as seven in the first half and grabbed a six-point second-half lead before Hill and the Quakers' defense turned a 37-31 deficit into a 48-40 advantage with 11:08 left in the game.

Roanoke twice pulled to within one point in the game's last nine minutes, but never regained the lead. A Lindsay Reynolds (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) basket drew the Maroons to with 57-56 with 3:20 left, but Roanoke had few quality scoring chances down the stretch. Guilford made seven of 11 free throws in the final 2:28 and sophomore Aftan Medlin (Kenly, NC/North Johnston) put back Hill miss with 1:02 left to secure the Quakers' fourth straight win over the Maroons.

Guilford freshman guard Jennifer King (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County) scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half, including all three of her game-high three three-pointers. Junior guard Nicole McCrory (Charlotte, NC/East Mecklenburg) overcame 10 turnovers and finished with nine points thanks to six-of-seven free-throw shooting in the final 2:09. The Quakers enjoyed a 47-34 rebounding advantage and scored 10 of their 16 second-chance points in the second half. By contrast, Roanoke managed 11 offensive rebounds but converted them into just three points.

Sophomore forward Jennie Schafer (Centreville, VA/Centreville) helped Roanoke get back into the game in the second half when she scored 10 of her team-high 11 points. Senior guard Katrina Williams (Salem, VA/Glenvar) also scored 11 points, but none in the second half and made only one of eight three-point shots. Senior forward Liz Sloop (Raleigh, NC/Enloe) totaled 10 points, a team-high eight boards and two steals for Roanoke.

Guilford entertains league-rival Emory & Henry Saturday (1/11) at 4:00 p.m. while the Maroons visit Lynchburg Friday (1/10) for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC tilt.
