Box Score Greensboro, NC (12/07/03) -- Senior Jennie Keichline (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) scored a season-high 17 points to lift hot-shooting Guilford past Lynchburg, 81-66, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball game Sunday. The Quakers (5-2, 3-0 ODAC) shot 61.2 percent from the floor, the sixth-highest percentage in school history, en route to their 28th consecutive home win and fourth straight victory of 2003.
The Quakers jumped out to a 25-13 lead before Lynchburg (2-4, 0-3 ODAC) trimmed the deficit to four points later in the half. A.J. Robertson's (Eden, NC/Morehead) three-pointer with four seconds left in the half sent the Quakers into halftime with a 39-31 advantage.
Robertson opened the second half with another trey that triggered a 10-1 run, which gave Guilford a 49-32 lead with 16:53 left. Lynchburg never pulled closer than 13 points the rest of the way as the Quakers connected on 15-of-21 second-half field-goal attempts (71.4%). Keichline netted 11 of her 17 points in the second half.
Robertson finished with 14 points and three assists for the Quakers. Sophomore Jennifer King (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County) added 13 points and three steals as the Quakers posted their highest point total of the season. Guilford enjoyed an 18-0 advantage in fast-break points.
Senior Abby Pyzik (Westminster, MD/Mercy) and junior Shannon Newton (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) paced the Hornets with 13 points apiece. Freshman Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) added 12 points for Lynchburg.
Guilford does not play again until January 3 when it visits defending league champion Randolph-Macon at 4:00 pm. Lynchburg also enjoys a long layoff before its next game, January 3 at Eastern Mennonite.
