QUAKERS DEFEAT ROANOKE, 64-50

Greensboro, NC (01/21/04) - Guilford's women's basketball team extended its home winning streak to 28 games with a 64-50 win over visiting Roanoke in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Wednesday night. The contest marked Guilford's first in the Ragan-Brown Field House since December 7, ending a six-game, six-week road trip.

Guilford senior A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) scored seven of her game-high 13 points during a decisive 15-5 run in the game's final 5:02 as the Quakers (8-6, 6-4 ODAC) snapped a three-game losing streak. The victory marked Guilford's seventh straight triumph over the Maroons (5-9, 4-6 ODAC).

Roanoke rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit with a 21-6 run over a 10-minute stretch. Junior Annie Roehm (Weston, CT/Weston) tallied eight of her team-high 11 points during the run and hit back-to-back three-pointers. Junior Jennie Schaefer (Centreville, VA/Centreville) capped the comeback with two free throws that tied the game at 45-45 with 5:02 to play.

After making only one field goal during Roanoke's rally, Guilford answered with back-to-back three-pointers by Jackie Hardenbergh (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI) and Robertson to regain a 51-45 edge with 3:47 remaining. Roanoke managed only one field goal in the game's final 6:23 and Guilford converted six of eight free throws in the final 66 seconds to preserve the win.

The Quakers prevailed despite shooting only 31.9 percent from the floor, including four-of-20 (20%) from three-point range. Guilford converted Roanoke's 26 turnovers into 25 points, while committing only 10 miscues for four Roanoke points. Senior Jennie Keichline (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) finished with 11 points and six rebounds for Guilford and senior Nicole McCrory (Charlotte, NC/East Mecklenburg) added nine points and five boards. Hardenbergh contributed six points and a game-high 10 boards.

Sophomore Lindsay Reynolds (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) had two three-pointers and finished with 10 points for Roanoke. Junior Kayce Smith (Chattanooga, TN/The Baylor School) added eight points and a club-high seven boards.

The Quakers host Hollins Saturday (1/24) at 2:00 in an ODAC contest while Roanoke hosts Randolph-Macon Woman's College Friday (1/23) at 7:00 pm.
