Lynchburg, VA (02/07/04) -- Lynchburg shot 52 percent (22-42) from the field en route to a 65-50 victory over Guilford Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action (ODAC).
Senior Abby Pyzik (Westminster, MD/Mercy) led the Hornets with 13 points including 4-4 from the charity stripe. LC held a 10 point lead going into halftime, 31-21, and remained in the lead the entire second half. Lacey Currle (Fairfax, VA/Bishop O'Connell) contributed with 11 points going 5-6 from the floor. Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) added nine points and team-high eight rebounds. The Hornet defense held Guilford's leading scorer, Jennie Keichline, to three points, all from the free-throw line.
The Quakers (12-8/10-6 ODAC) were held to 25 percent from the field (15-59) but shot 80% from the free-throw line (16-20). Jennifer King (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County) led the team with 12 points and three steals shooting 4-9 from the field. Jackie Hardenbergh (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI) added 10 points and also had three steals in today's contest. The Quakers went on a 9-2 run in the second half to pull within seven points at 54-47, but could not get any closer.
Guilford's A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) tied the school record for career three-pointers by hitting her 103rd career trifecta.
The LC women look to extend their four-game winning streak as they head to Frederick, MD, to take on the Blazers of Hood College Sunday at 3 p.m.in non-conference action. Guilford hosts Eastern Mennonite Friday (2/13) at 7:00 pm.
