Box Score 2 Greensboro, NC Fallon Fant put away a match-high 14 kills on .345 hitting and added nine in visiting Bridgewater's 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win at Guilford Wednesday night. Scores of the Eagles' 12th straight win were: 30-23, 30-14, 30-27. Bridgewater has not dropped a game in each of its last seven matches and has a 23-game unbeaten streak dating to Oct. 8.
Heather St. Clair added 13 kills on .308 hitting and Marsha Hermes chipped in with 12 kills on .280 hitting for the Eagles, who have won nine straight against Guilford, including two this season. The Eagles put away 55 kills as a team, thanks in part to the serving of Katherine Heath, who finished with 42 assists, four digs and a match-high three blocks. Libero Angela Runkle had a solid match with 12 digs and four aces, both match highs, plus no reception errors in 28 attempts.
Emily Becher and Brittani Leathern led Guilford with six kills apiece. Becher added five digs and an assist. Setter Becca Jones tallied 21 assists and eight digs. Jessica Smith added five kills and Kaci Loeffler made a team-high nine digs.
The Quakers best chance to win a game came in the third set when Guilford held a narrow two-point lead before the match was tied at 24. Bridgewater's Lori Smith served up four straight points, including one of eight Bridgewater aces, to open a 28-24 edge.
Guilford closes out the regular season Saturday (10/29) morning against league-rival Sweet Briar. The Quakers need a win to clinch the eighth and final spot in the ODAC Tournament, which runs Nov. 4-5 in Emory, VA.
