Box Score Guilford's Sarah Routhier scored five goals and the Quakers hold off a second half rally to defeat the Bridgewater College Eagles, 9-6, in ODAC action Friday.
The first half was a defensive struggle until Routhier scored with 20:30 left in the half. Routhier added a second goal before the Eagles got on the board with a goal by Lauren Smith with 8:17 left in the half. Lauren Goodwin and Kathryn Hyde answered with goals for the Quakers before Bridgewater's Gillian Walsh scored with 2:44 left in the half, making the score 4-2.
Two goal by Routhier gave the Quakers a 6-2 lead in the second half, but the Eagles continued to battle. Meghan Malehorn and Smith scored for Bridgewater to make it 6-4 before a goal by Goodwin put the Quakers up 7-4.
The Eagles pulled to within one, 7-6, on goals by Smith and Nell Bodani, but Guilford held on and put the game away with goals by Routhier and Hyde in the final 17 minutes.
Guilford goalkeeper Brandi Rhoades recorded eight saves while Bridgewater's Kristi Martin finished with six saves.
The victory was Guilford's first conference win of the season. The Quakers are now 1-3 in the ODAC and 3-4 overall. Bridgewater drops to 1-5 in the ODAC and 1-7 overall.
