Box Score Salem, Va. (11/27/07) -- Defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year Erin Hanson scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Roanoke College past visiting Guilford College, 71-56, in both teams' ODAC women's basketball opener Tuesday night in the Bast Center.
The Maroons (3-0, 1-0 ODAC) scored the game's first 16 points and kept the Quakers (3-1, 0-1 ODAC) scoreless until the 11:38 mark of the first half. An Ann Seufer three pointer drew Guilford within 20-12 with 9:35 before halftime, but the Maroons answered with a 15-4 run and led 40-26 at halftime. Roanoke shot 57.7 percent from the floor in the first half, while Guilford shot 37.9 percent.
Hanson scored 10 points and teammate Jordan Gholson netted 10 of her 17 points in the second half. Gholson's two free throws with 4:26 left opened a 30-point Roanoke edge. Torri Bridge missed all seven shots from the floor, but shared team-high rebounding honors with seven. The Maroons enjoyed a 41-23 rebounding advantage and outscored Guilford 23-4 from the free-throw line.
Guilford's Tracey Croner shot eight-of-12 from the floor on the way to a team-best 17 points. She also paced the Quakers with seven rebounds.
Guilford returns to action Friday night (11/30) against visiting Hollins University at 7:00 p.m
