Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (2/3/07) - Carolyn Riley scored a game-high 22 points and Jolene Kratz added 16 points in Eastern Mennonite's 78-66 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win at Guilford Saturday afternoon. The Royals (15-5, 13-3 ODAC) gained a sweep of the season series between the two schools with their sixth straight win. Guilford drops to 7-14 (6-10 ODAC) with its eighth loss in a row.
Eastern Mennonite showed no ill effects from playing its second road game in less than 24 hours. The Royals shot better than 50 percent from the floor and made seven-of-16 three-pointers, including six-of-11 trifectas in the first half. Riley made two three-pointers in the first half and had 12 points by intermission. Teammate Ebony Dennis made all three three-point field shots in the opening half and finished with nine points. Her back-to-back threes highlighted a 20-5 Royals' spurt late in the first half that led to her team's 47-27 halftime lead.
The margin grew to as many as 26 points midway through the second half, but the Quakers scored 12 of the game's final 14 points to narrow the final margin to 78-66.
Ann Seufer's 14 points off the bench paced three Guilford students in double-digit scoring as the Quakers posted their highest scoring total in nine games. Seufer drilled four second-half three-pointers and scored all of her points in the second half. Teammates Tracey Croner and Brittany Bumgarner added 13 points apiece. Croner finished with a game- and career-high eight rebounds, plus two steals.
The Quakers return to action Tuesday (2/6) at league-rival Washington and Lee. The Royals entertain Washington and Lee next Saturday (2/10).
