Box Score

Bridgewater, Va. (1-26-08) - Ben Strong scored 38 points and pulled down 11 rebounds Saturday evening to lead the Guilford Quakers to an 85-80 victory over Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball action at Nininger Hall.

Strong's effort negated a record-setting performance by Bridgewater College sophomore guard Dominic Trawick, who scored a career-high 39 points on a school-record nine 3-pointers in 15 attempts.

Guilford led by 10 points, 72-62, with 6:20 left in the game but back-to-back 3-pointers from Trawick cut the margin to four with 5:32 to go.

Strong answered with two buckets and Ray Edmond completed a three-point as the Quakers once again pushed the margin to double-digits, 79-69, with 3:45 to play.

Bridgewater had one final run as two free throws by Trawick and four points from Michael Oblitey cut the deficit to five 79-74, with 2:51 left.

Eric Belkoski's three-pointer gave the Quakers and eight-point lead before two more 3-pointers by Trawick made it a two-point game, 82-80, with 1:01 left.

Guilford worked the clock and Caleb Kimbrough drained a long 3-pointer for an 85-80 lead with just 30 seconds to play.

Strong, who made 16-of-21 shots from the floor, had plenty of offensive help as Clay Henson scored 16 points and Kimbrough added 14. Strong scored 20 points to help Guilford overcome a 43-41 halftime deficit.

Bridgewater had four players reach double figures. In addition to Trawick's 39, Andrew Cathlin scored 15 and Josh Fox and Oblitey added 10 points each.

Guilford entered the game as the top rebounding team in the nation, but Bridgewater outrebounded the Quakers, 35-33. Guilford was averaging a plus 13.8 margin on the boards entering Saturday's contest.

Guilford improved to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the ODAC while the Eagles dropped to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in the ODAC.
