Cold Shooting Plagues Guilford In Loss at W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. (1/29/08) -- Washington and Lee University held Guilford College to just 15.6 percent shooting in the first half and jumped out to an early 19-3 lead in the Generals' 64-53 win over the Quakers in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

Guilford connected on just one of its first 16 shots as Washington and Lee built a 19-3 advantage  with 7:32 left in the opening stanza en route to a 29-16 intermission lead. The Generals led by as many as 15 (33-18) with 18:41 remaining, but the Quakers rallied and cut the margin to single digits on several occasions, including getting as close as five points (47-42) with 5:56 to play. However, the Blue and White subsequently used a 9-1 run over the next 2:34 to take a 56-43 lead in securing the 11-point victory.

The Generals (5-12, 4-8 ODAC), who snapped a five-game losing streak with the win, out-rebounded the Quakers, 55-43. Guilford shot just 25.8 percent (16-62) from the floor for the game.

Senior forward Kristen Krouchick paced four Generals in double-figures with 14 points and nine rebounds. Senior forward Amanda Kane tallied 11 points and a game-high five assists, while senior guard Emily Wolff and junior forward Kara Nadeau each added 10 markers. Nadeau also added nine rebounds. Sophomore center Kaitlyn Kamp totaled a team-high 10 rebounds, to go along with five points.

Guilford (10-7, 5-7 ODAC) was paced by junior forward Tracey Croner, who totaled 15 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore guard Ann Seufer's 16 points.

The Quakers host Randolph-Macon College in an ODAC game Friday (2/1) night at 7:00 p.m. The Generals return to action Feb. 5 when they host Emory & Henry College at 7:00 p.m.
