Box Score EMORY, Va. (1/20/08) - Guilford College outscored Emory & Henry College, 15-2, in the final 5:08 for a 71-63 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball victory Tuesday night in the King Center. The Quakers (7-9, 6-5 ODAC) completed a sweep of the season series with the Wasps (3-10, 2-7 ODAC) for the fourth straight season.
Guilford held a 13-point first-half lead before the host Wasps cut the deficit to 36-28 at halftime. Midway through the second period, Emory & Henry used a 22-9 run to open a 58-53 lead with 6:51 left to play. Sarah Petty scored eight of her 10 points during the run thanks to a pair of three-pointers.
Baylie Snyder's bucket with 5:08 left gave the Wasps a 61-56 edge before the Quakers rallied. Following an Ann Seufer score, Guilford's Jessica Casto drained her third three-pointer of the game in as many shots, which tied the score at 61 with 4:24 remaining. Following a defensive stop, Guilford's Alexandria Miles scored the go-ahead bucket with 3:42 remaining. As Emory & Henry struggled to score, the Wasps were eventually forced to foul and Guilford responded by making six free throws in the final two minutes.
Casto's season-high 13 points shared team-high scoring honors with Tracey Croner, who tallied nine of her points in the second half. Sophomore Destiny Carden contributed a season-high 10 points off the bench, two shy of her career high. Croner added a team-best nine boards, which helped Guilford to a 44-40 rebounding advantage.
Snyder and Alex Lyons both scored 15 points for the Wasps. Petty finished with 10 points.
Guilford returns home for the first time in five games Saturday (1/24) against ODAC-rival Roanoke College at 2:00 p.m. Emory & Henry visits Washington and Lee University Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
