Men's Soccer Drops ODAC Tournament Opener at Va. Wesleyan, 3-0

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (10/31/09) -- Brandon Massie scored a goal and two assists in top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College's 3-0 victory over visiting Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal game Saturday night.  

The Marlins (14-3-2), ranked seventh in this week's adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III South Atlantic Region Poll, advances to a Wednesday (11/4) semifinal against visiting Roanoke College.  Guilford (8-12-1) ends its winningest season since 2004.  

Robbie Mann headed in a Massie corner kick in the 31st minute to open the game's scoring. Less than two minutes later, the Marlins doubled their lead when Massie fed teammate Clay Price, who scored from 10 yards out. Massie's penalty kick goal in the 78th minute closed the scoring.  

Virginia Wesleyan held a 23-9 edge in shots. The Marlins' Ryan Zmuda made four saves in goal. Guilford's Jonathan Shine recorded seven saves for the Quakers.
