Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. (10/16/10) -- Guilford College's volleyball team swept both matches Saturday in a tri-match hosted by Bridgewater College. The Quakers (11-11, 2-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)) knocked off the host Eagles, 3-1, for the first time since 1997 in their first match and took later a 3-0 decision from Marymount University.
The Eagles took the opening set, 25-21, but Guilford rallied to win the next three, 28-26, 25-18, 25-22 to end Bridgewater's 12-game winning streak over the Quakers that dated to the 1997 ODAC Tournament. Brittany Freeman paced Guilford with 19 kills and 17 digs. Teammate Mary Moody chipped in a season-high 13 putaways and Courtney Kozar finished with 11. Taylor Whitley set up 47 assists and teammate Taylor Phillips had 30 digs in the win.
In the day's second contest, Guilford evened its overall record at 11-11 with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 triumph over Marymount. Kozar led the Quakers with 10 kills while Freeman and Emma Gunn chipped in seven kills apiece. Laura Kopald hit .333 with a season-high eight kills. Kate Dailey handled the bulk of the setting duties and finished with 22 assists. Phillips contributed 20 digs.
The Quakers are back in action Thursday (10/21) night at league-rival Sweet Briar College.
