Volleyball Team Drops Narrow 3-0 Contest to Lynchburg

GREENSBORO, N.C. (10/27/10) -- Mallory Stewart hit .750 with nine kills to lead visiting Lynchburg College to a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win at Guilford College Tuesday evening. The scores of the tightly played match were 25-21, 25-23, 25-22. Lynchburg (14-10, 7-3 ODAC) overcame late deficits in all three sets if the match that featured 25 ties and eight lead changes.  

Lynchburg's Michelle Boucher had four of her six kills in the first set on .444 hitting to help the Hornets to a narrow 25-21 win. The Quakers (14-12, 4-5 ODAC) held a 20-19 lead before the Hornets reeled off five straight points, including two service aces by Rebecca Loftis.

Guilford overcame an early four-point deficit in the second set and held a 20-18 edge before Lynchburg rallied. Stewart registered five of her nine kills in five attempts in the second set.  

The Quakers had another 20-19 lead in set three, but the Hornets proved too strong down the stretch. Kristen Martin picked up five of her team-high 10 digs and Brooke Moughon had eight of her team-best 18 assists in the final set.  

Elena Kritter was solid for Lynchburg with eight kills and nine digs. Loftis finished with seven putaways on .294 hitting.  

Guilford's Mary Moody put away a match-high 11 kills on .296 hitting, added 10 digs and four blocks. Teammate Brittany Freeman added eight kills, two service aces and five digs. Taylor Whitley had 26 assists and teammate Taylor Phillips picked up 12 digs.  

The Quakers close ODAC play Friday (10/29) at Randolph College at 7:00 p.m.
