Guilford Women's Basketball Team Stops Meredith, 75-46

GREENSBORO, N.C. (11/20/10) -- Freshman Morgan King scored a game- and career-high 14 points in Guilford College's 75-46 women's basketball win over Meredith College Saturday in the Quakers' home opener.

King, a 6-1 forward, led four Guilford students in double-figure scoring and helped the Quakers (2-1) outscore the Avenging Angels, 44-20, in the paint. Guilford scored the game's first seven points and never looked back. The Quakers had a 20-point lead 13 minutes into the game before settling for a 39-26 halftime advantage.

Freshman Logan Terry sparked Guilford in the first half by scoring eight of her career-high 13 points off the bench. She also knocked down three three-pointers and shared game-high honors with four assists and three steals. Junior Jazlyn Gibbs also had 13 points and four assists. Lauren LeFevers chipped in with 10 points, four assists and four rebounds. Brittany Atwater scored seven points and corralled a game-high nine rebounds.

Kristin Stewart paced Meredith with 13 points and Ashley Hudson finished with 10 points off the bench. Danielle Lee and Tyler Gresham shared team-high rebounding honors with seven boards apiece. The Avenging Angels showed signs of fatigue with 23 turnovers and less than 30 percent field-goal shooting, including 24 percent in the second half. Meredith opened its season less than 24 hours earlier with a home win over Randolph College.

Guilford opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Tuesday (11/23) at defending league champion and preseason favorite Washington and Lee University at 7:00 p.m.
