Bowser Throws Shutout in Softball Split with Meredith

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. (4/8/10) -- Shelby Bowser twirled her first college shutout in Guilford College's 2-0 win over Meredith College to split a nonconference softball doubleheader Thursday. Amanda Beirne and Lauriel Lebeau combined on a six-hit shutout in the Avenging Angels' 7-0 opening-game win.

Bowser ran her record to 8-1 and helped Guilford (21-7-1) end a three-game losing slide in game two. The sophomore fanned two and allowed only one runner past second base. Guilford's Charissa Duncan led off the game with her team-leading sixth homer of the year, which opened a 1-0 lead. The Quakers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning on Morgan Andrews' RBI ground out.

Julie Langseth and Tabitha Poole both had two hits for Guilford.

Arielle Stout had three hits, two steals and an RBI to back Beirne (6-6) and Lebeau in the opener. Guss Christ added a two-run double in the fifth inning. The Avenging Angels (19-15) took advantage of three Guilford errors, five walks and a hit batsman.

The Quakers resume Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday at Sweet Briar College (4/10) at 2:00 p.m.
