GREENSBORO, N.C. (9/1/10) -- Methodist University's Christine Ellington and Lauren Colenda both scored first-half goals just over three minutes apart in the visiting Monarchs' 2-1 soccer win at Guilford College Wednesday night. The contest marked both teams' season opener.  

Ellington tallied the first goal in the 20th minute by winning a challenge for a loose ball with Guilford goalie Amy Baker and slotting the ball past her. Colenda followed in the 23rd minute off a shot deflected past Baker, again was in pursuit of a loose ball.  

The Quakers' had a goal disallowed late in the first half on an offsides call, but halved the deficit with 7:29 remaining when Sarah Levitt looped a loose ball over Methodist keeper Kasey Nichols from about 40 yards out.  

Neither team threatened in the final minutes as Methodist improved to 15-2 all time versus Guilford.  

The Quakers are back in action Saturday (9/4) at Meredith College.
