Guilford 1-1 After Day One of Greensboro Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. (9/10/10) -- Guilford College went 1-1 on Friday's first day of the Greensboro College Volleyball Tournament in Hanes Gym. The Quakers (6-2) fell to the host Pride, 26-24, 25-16, 25-19 in their first match, but recovered for a 25-19, 25-9, 21-25, 18-25, 16-14 victory over Peace College in their second contest.  

In the opener, Greensboro (5-2) rallied from a 15-5 first-set deficit and staved off six match points in a 26-24 victory. The Pride's momentum carried them through the next two sets and helped snap a three-game losing skid to the Quakers. Greensboro's Sha McDuffie hit .370 with a game-high 12 kills, seven digs and a block. Teammates Brittany Hunsucker and Karen Riffanacht added 10 kills apiece. Dara Sandknop hit .417 with six kills and set up a game-high 26 assists.  Brittany Freeman had 10 kills on .206 hitting and six digs for Guilford.  

Freeman delivered the winning kill in the fifth set of Guilford's triumph over Peace. After a convincing 25-9 win in the second set, Peace forced a fifth set with two wins. Guilford served for the match three times in the final set, but Peace rallied to tie the score a 14-14 before the Quakers' Traci Teague and Freeman delivered the winning points. Teague led all hitters with 15 kills on .375 hitting. Guilford's Courtney Kozar and Courtney Campbell both added eight putaways and Taylor Phillips contributed 21 assists and 11 digs. Lauren Nagle had 12 kills and 15 digs for the Pacers (0-1).  

Guilford wraps up tournament play Saturday versus Piedmont College (10:00 a.m.) and Randolph-Macon College (4:00 p.m.).
