Quakers Fall to Roanoke, 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. (9/22/10) - Guilford College dropped a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference decision to visiting Roanoke College Wednesday night, 30-28, 25-19, 25-18. The hard-fought first set saw six lead changes and 13 ties. All three sets of the match were tightly contested, but Roanoke prevailed for its eighth win in nine matches.

The Quakers (7-6, 1-2 ODAC) were led by Traci Teague's nine kills on .412 hitting. Rookie setter Taylor Whitley contributed 24 assists and teammate Mary Moody's finished with a game-high 22 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Brittany Freeman also added nine kills.

Roanoke outside hitters Kelsey Largen and Maggie Wagner paced the way for Roanoke (9-3, 2-1 ODAC) with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Largen also contributed 15 digs and two service aces in the win. The Maroons' got some extra help from Emily Martin's 16 digs and Shannon Stone's game-high 40 assists. Stone did not play in the season's first meeting between the two teams, a 3-1 Guilford win Sept. 4

Guilford looks to avenge the loss when it hits the road Friday (9/24) for a 6:00 p.m. match at Salem College.
