Guilford Rallies Past Roanoke, 75-66, in ODAC Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Guilford College overcame a nine-point second-half deficit to rally past visiting Roanoke College, 75-66, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Tuesday night. Junior Brittany Atwater's 13 points, six assists and two steals led a balanced scoring night for the Quakers, who had all five starters finish with double-digit scoring.

Guilford (5-2, 3-0 ODAC) built a 14-point lead in the first 12 minutes of the half behind the three-point shooting of Jazlyn Gibbs and low-post play of Morgan King. Both students had nine points at halftime and finished the game with 15 points apiece.

Roanoke (1-5, 1-2 ODAC) used a 21-5 surge over the final 7:30 of the first half to steal momentum and take a 35-33 halftime lead. The Maroons were led by Kayla Lemke, who scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the first half, and Paxton Gwin, who contributed 10 points in the first stanza.

The Maroons built a 50-41 second-half advantage before the Quakers started chipping away at the lead.  Guilford freshman Amber Weaver hit two free throws at 8:23 to tie the score at 54-54. Gabby Oglesby's layup at 4:40 broke the tie and gave Guilford the lead for good.

Guilford rookie Logan Hardin had a game-high seven rebounds to go along with five points. Teammate Jaclyn Nucci finished with 10 points and five assists. The Quakers shot 49.2 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line, including Atwater's 5-6 shooting down the stretch.

Roanoke had strong performances from Lemke, Gwin and Laurel Hankins (14 points).  Tatum Mckee pulled down seven rebounds to tie for game-high honors.  The Maroons finished the game shooting 51 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.

Guilford returns to action Saturday (12/10) at Meredith College in a 2:00 p.m. nonconference game.
