Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Hampden-Sydney College scored nine of the game's first 10 goals and never looked back in a 14-8 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse win over visiting Guilford College Saturday.
Jess Hawthorne, Ben Clarke and Eric Gorsline all scored twice during the game-opening burst, which sparked the Tigers (8-3, 2-2 ODAC) to a 12-3 halftime lead.
Hampden-Sydney's Brad Mostowy won 14 of 17 face-offs, scooped up 16 ground balls and forced four turnovers in a stellar defensive performance. He helped the Tigers control possession as the home team won 19 of the game's 26 draws. Hampden-Sydney also enjoyed a 42-21 edge in ground balls and outshot the Quakers, 31-16.
Nate Cundy scored a game-high three goals off the bench for the Tigers, who had seven different goal scorers. Clarke and Cole Hawthorne both finished with three points on two goals and one assist. Four different goaltenders combined to make five saves in the game, including Ben Hansell, who had three stops.
Chris Ashcraft and Greg Nash both scored twice for Guilford. Goaltender Mark Guillen made six saves and picked up a team-high seven ground balls.
The Quakers close out their nonconference schedule Wednesday night versus Greensboro College in a game played at Bryan Park's Macpherson Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
