Box Score 2 HARRISONBURG, Va. – Michaela Wall had 14 kills and six blocks in Guilford College's 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball win at Eastern Mennonite University Saturday. Kelsey Ruehling chipped in with 13 kills for the Quakers, who notched their first league win and snapped a six-game losing skid.
Bluefield College scored a 3-0 win over the Quakers (4-13, 1-4 ODAC) in their second contest at the tri-match hosted by Eastern Mennonite.
Guilford rallied from a 2-1 set deficit to post the five-set win. The Quakers won the first three points of the fourth set and eventually built a 21-16 advantage. Eastern Mennonite rallied to within 22-21 before the Quakers took advantage of three straight Royals' hitting errors to force the decisive fifth set.
The final set featured five ties and neither team led by more than three points. The Quakers went ahead 13-11 on a kill by Wall, but Regan Cook's putaway, followed by a Dani Driver service ace, tied the set at 13-13. Guilford's Casey Davis notched a kill to give Guilford the edge and the Quakers clinched on another Royals' miscue.
Guilford junior Maile Munro returned from injury to record 38 assists and 21 digs, both team highs. Brittany DeCesare also returned from injury and had six kills. Brooke Herr with chipped in 15 digs.
After the dramatic win, the Quakers turned around to face Bluefield, but could not muster the energy needed to win the nonconference match. The Rams (5-10) prevailed, 25-19, 25-22, 25-14, in their first contest of the day.
Guilford's Casey Davis and Marinda Popp shared team-high honors with six kills apiece. Tyann Thomas' 13 kills led Bluefield.
