Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tournament Most Valuable Player Bryson Fonville scored a game-high 23 points to lead host Catholic University of America to a 79-47 victory over Guilford College Tuesday night in the Cardinals' College Park Holiday Inn Basketball Classic final.
Fonville, a junior point guard, also contributed five rebounds, five assists and three steals to Catholic's (8-3) eighth win in 10 games. Fonville netted 17 second-half points, which helped the Cardinals outscore the Quakers (7-3), 45-25 in the frame. Jay Howard added 16 points and a game-best nine boards.
The setback overshadowed the milestone Guilford's Matt McCarthy reached playing before a smattering of hometown fans. He finished with eight points in the game and now has 1,007 career markers.
Senior Jonny Rice led the Quakers with 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman Brandon Staves, who scored eight points off the bench, represented Guilford on the all-tournament team.
