Box Score SALEM, Va.---Four Guilford College players scored in double-figures as the fourth-seeded Quakers advanced in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament, 79-57, over fifth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College Thursday afternoon.
Gabby Oglesby dominated the first half for the Quakers with 17 points, including 11 of the first 15 Quaker points in the first 6:21 of the contest. The Marlins made two runs which cut the Quaker lead down to one before the Quakers ended the first half on a 12-4 run. The Quaker frontcourt gained the first half advantage in rebounds, 21-13, and held the Marlins to just seven shots inside the arc.
The Quakers would begin to pull away in the second half and widened their lead with a 15-4 run over a 6:37 span in the middle of the second half. Morgan King propelled the Quakers' second half offense with 10 points to finish the game with 14 points while shooting six-of-seven from the field.
Guilford finished the contest with a decisive advantage on the glass, out-rebounding the Marlins by 21 while turning 18 offensive rebounds into 15 points. Logan Hardin lead the Quakers on the glass with 10 rebounds. Miranda Martin led all Quakers on the offensive glass with seven offensive rebounds. Guilford's frontcourt led the Quakers to a decisive advantage in interior scoring, outproducing the Marlins in the paint, 20-4.
Guilford's defense held the Marlins to just 29.5% shooting, including 21.2% from three-point range. Virginia Wesleyan shot only 25.7% from the field in the second half. The Quaker defense also turned 10 Marlin turnovers into 15 points.
The Quakers shot 52.5% for the contest, including 58.3% in the second half on 14-of-24 shooting.
The Quakers (20-6), who clinched their third consecutive 20-win season with the victory, face top-seed Eastern Mennonite University in the ODAC Semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m. inside the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.
