FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cassidy Hayes had seven kills with no errors on .318 hitting in Methodist University's 25-15, 27-25, 25-14 season-opening volleyball win over Guilford College Tuesday night. Hayes also had four blocks and two digs for the hosts.

Chyenne Pump added seven putaways for the Monarchs (1-0), who hit .209 as a team and had a .961 service reception percentage. Maggie Harris set up 24 assists and served up two aces.

Guilford's Casey Davis had a match-best 10 kills for the Quakers (0-1). Guilford mounted a late rally in the second set to erase a 23-18 deficit, but the Monarchs staved off a set point and rallied for the 27-25 win. The Quakers' Brooke Herr led all students with 12 digs.

Coach Emily Gann's Quakers compete in the Averett University Cougar Classic this Saturday (9/5) and Sunday (9/6) in Danville, Va.
