Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C.---Washington and Lee University used a balanced attack to turn back Guilford College, 5-0, in a rainy Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (7-1, 3-0 ODAC), ranked sixth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III South Atlantic Region Poll, had five different goal scorers. The Quakers (3-5-1, 1-2 ODAC) held tight after Tricia Jessee scored a goal from distance in the fifth minute, with the Quakers holding opportunities. The Generals broke through in the 44th minute when Rebecca Dunn played a deflection inside the box to increase the lead.
The Generals scored three goals in a six-minute span early in the second half to expand their lead. Megan Engeland's goal in the 47th minute started the run. Rebecca Morris tallied two assists on the afternoon, including an assist on Hollis Tardy's goal in the 53rd minute.
The Generals outshot the Quakers, 18-2, and held the edge on corner kicks, 14-0.
Maggie Albert made two saves in net for the Quakers. Cheyenne Grim entered the contest for the final 27:42 and made one stop. Maggie Nolan earned the win in net for the Generals while Shelbi Hendricks played the final 24:38.
The Quakers (3-5-1, 1-2 ODAC) return to action Wednesday with a 5 p.m. ODAC contest at fourth-ranked Lynchburg College.
