Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College erupted for its most goals in a men's lacrosse game since 2015 in Wednesday's 20-5 victory over William Peace University in the Quakers' home opener.
Ten different Quakers dent the twine to help Guilford move to 5-1 for the first time since 2015. The Pacers fell to 1-4.
Connor Sweeney paced Guilford with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Bailey Benjamin scored a career-best six points on three goals and three helpers. He tallied the game's first two goals, which helped Guilford build 6-2 lead after one quarter and a 12-2 halftime advantage.
Guilford's Brennan Sweeney also had six points on two goals and a game-best four assists. His second-quarter man-down tally quarter triggered a 9-0 Quakers' run that led to a 15-2 margin midway through the third quarter. The Pacers got man-up goals by Trey Galligan and Brewer Warlick to get back to within 15-4, but drew no closer. Guilford's Bryce Craig scored two of his three goals in a 5-1 run that ended the game.
Guilford's Michael Hickner dominated the face-off circle with 19 wins in 28 chances. He also picked up a game-high eight ground balls. Rookie Austin Rohweder paced a strong defensive effort with three caused turnovers, one assist, and four ground balls. The goaltending trio of Marley Tolton, Jack Rogers, and Tyson Wolter combined for six saves.
Warlick's two scores led William Peace's offense. Alec Bynum and Patrick Calhoun both picked up four ground balls for the Pacers. Nick Shelton played the first 53 minutes in goal and stopped 13 shots.
Coach Mark Crisco's Quakers open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday (3/7) at Washington and Lee University.
