Women's Volleyball Stumbles on the Road

WINCHESTER, Va -- The Guilford College women's volleyball fell at Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon, 0-3

 

THE BASICS

  • Scores: 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-15)

  • Records: Shenandoah 5-13 (2-7 ODAC), Guilford 5-12 (2-4 ODAC)

  • Location: James R. Wilkins Jr.Athletics and Events Center - Winchester, Va. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Guilford recorded the first point of the contest on a Shenandoah attack error. GC quickly fell behind, 3-2. The hosting Hornets were able to maintain their lead for the remainder of the set, despite a six-point streak by The Quakers, to claim a narrow 25-22 win. 

Set two kicked off differently with the Hornets scoring the first five points. The Quakers were able to catch up shortly after, scoring the next four points to trail 5-4. The pair traded points throughout, each owning multi-point runs. Guilford was able to put together a couple of 3-point runs, with kills from Devyn Norman, Adison Needham and Kaitlyn Kelley. Despite its best efforts, GC dropped the stanza 25-10

Once again, the Hornets opened the third set with a lead, as they put the first three points on the board. Kelley was the first Quaker to record a point in the set, posting a kill from Maddi Page. The Hornets gapped out to a 14-7 win, and were able to claim a quick As the Quakers continued to fight, the Hornets remained in the lead with a big gap in the middle of the set with 7-14, which helped them to a quick 25-15 set win to close out the contest.

 

TOP PERFORMING QUAKERS

  • Kaitlyn Kelley, Hannah Stout and Devyn Norman led the Quaker offensive push, each with eight kills.

  • Kelley also helped out on defense, going up for two blocks.

  • Stout added two digs and one assist to her totals.

  • Norman was also strong at the net, adding two blocks of her own.

  • Avery Lemons and Maddi Page each recorded two service aces and 11 digs.

  • Page had a team-best 17 assists. 

 

NEXT GAME

The Quakers are set to compete at home on Wednesday as they host Washington and Lee at 7 p.m.
