Quakers Open Season with Big Win at Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Guilford College women's basketball team opened its season with a 67-49 victory over Pfeiffer University on Monday evening. 

 

THE BASICS

  • Records: Guilford 1-0, Pfieffer 1-1

  • Score: Guilford 67, Pfeiffier 49

  • Location: Merner Gym - Misenheimer, N.C.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • A great start for the Quakers, they were able to open up a 5-0 lead thanks in part to a  J'la Hinson jumper. 

  • Guilford was able to maintain a sizable lead through the opening quarter, owning a 29-12 advantage heading into the second. 

  • GC continued to lead through the second quarter with Anayaih Randolph owning the opening score on a jumper. Strong throughout, Guilford led 41-24 as it entered halftime. 

  • The Quakers were able to gain more points in the beginning of the third quarter with a layup by Abby Kennedy with an assist by Hinson at 9:39 on the clock, 43-24. Hinson made back-to-back shots helping the Quakes to a nearly 20 point lead, 48-27. 

  • Owning the last quarter of the game, Guilford claimed a win in its first contest of the season, 67-49 with help from Hinson, Randolph, Kennedy, and Lindsay Gauldin

 

COMPARING NUMBERS

  • Guilford out-rebounded its opponent 80-52. 

  • GC shot 34.2% from the field (25-for-73), while Pfeiffer shot 19.5% (16-for-82).

  • The Quakers also shot 51.5% in free throws (17-for-33), while the hosts shot 44% (11-for-25).

 

TOP PERFORMING QUAKERS

  • Leading her team with the most points, Lindsay Gauldin put up 17 points. Gauldin also tied with Courtney McMillian in rebounds with 12, eight defensive and three offensive. 

  • Pitching in on the domination of the Falcons, Abby Kennedy posted a double-double with her team-high 13 boards, which she paired with her 10 points.

  • Second in scoring, J'la Hinson put up 16 points and added four assists. Hinson also had seven total rebounds.

  • While strong off the boards, McMillian also scored 11 points. 

 

NEXT TIME

Guilford remains on the road as it will travel to take on Hollins University Wednesday at 7 p.m.
