Guilford Battles Bridgewater in a Thriller

The Guilford College women's volleyball team battled Bridgewater College in a home matchup. The Quakers fell to the Eagles in five sets, 3-2. The match took place in Alumni Gym due to a power outage in the Ragan-Brown Field House.

Bridgewater started the first set by putting the first point on the board. Guilford was able to make a comeback on an attack error by the Eagles to tie the score, 1-1. The visitors soon broke the tie with three back-to-back points. Both squads were evenly matched two more times until Bridgewater took over and ended the set 25-22. 

The second set was similar to the first with even play by both teams in the beginning. Bridgewater claimed the first set point but Guilford responded with a kill from Madison Duvall. The Quakers began to take control of the set after breaking the 8-8 tie. Guilford maintained their lead and closed the set with a win, 25-22. 

Both squads came in the third set with high momentum. The visitors scored the first four points but the Quakers came up with four back to back points for themselves, 4-4. They were evenly matched 15-15 in the middle of the set until the Eagles went on a streak. The Quakers were able to catch up with the Eagles and closed the set on a 6-0 run to win, 26-24.

In the fourth, the visitors opened the set on a 2-0 run and continued to keep their lead throughout the set. The Quakers were able to pull within one (23-22) at the end but the Eagles came through with the win, 25-22.

The fifth and final set began with the visitors making the first point. Guilford was able to keep up with the Eagles, 4-4. Unfortunately, the Eagles won the set, 15-8, and the match, 3-2.

Paige McDonald and Natalie Moore led the offense with 18 kills. Maddi Page tallied 55 assists and 11 digs while Lydia Saunders added 23 digs.

Guilford travels crosstown to take on the Pride of Greensboro College. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
