The Guilford College women's basketball team hosted Pfeiffer University for one of its final games before the holiday break. Behind a double-double from
Lindsay Gauldin, the Quakers cruised to victory, 77-61.
Gauldin led all scorers with 29 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. On the afternoon she also picked up five steals and dished out four assists.
In the opening period, Pfeiffer (2-8) jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage. Guilford (7-3) slowly chipped away at the deficit and used a 9-0 run to take a 13-10 lead with 2:50 remaining in the period.
The Falcons remained in striking distance as the advantage switched between the two teams. The visitors held the slight edge, 18-17, at the end of the first.
In the second, the Quakers came out strong and pulled away. GC opened the first six-plus minutes with a 17-0 run to jump ahead 34-18. Pfeiffer managed to only score six points in the period as Guilford led 43-24 at the half.
The third period was evenly contested with the Falcons getting the better play. The visitors outscored the Quakers 17-14 in the period but trailed by 16 (57-41) overall.
In the final 10 minutes of regulation, Pfeiffer used a 9-2 run to cut the difference to 10 (60-50). However, that was the closest the Falcons got as GC went on to win by the 16-point margin.
Joining Gauldin on the double-double train was
Anna Giannopoulou with 12 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, the Quakers grabbed 19 more rebounds (53-34) and shot 39.4% (26-66) from the field and 72% (18-25) from the charity stripe.
Guilford travels to Meredith College on Sunday, December 18 for its next game. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
