Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Quakers Top Maroons on the Road

The Guilford College men's basketball team made the journey to Roanoke College to face the Maroons. The Quakers came out on top, 65-57.

Coming out of halftime, Guilford (17-5, 13-2) held a one-point (33-32) advantage. Roanoke (16-8, 8-7) hit two free throws to take its first lead since the very beginning of the contest.  The Quakers recaptured the lead with seven-straight points with five from Liam Ward.

The Maroons hit a free throw to pause the run but GC picked up where it left off. From 16:19 to 11:52, all 13 points scored were by the Quakers to expand their lead, 53-35.

Guilford held a double-digit edge until Roanoke went on a 9-1 run to pull within six (59-53) with 1:26 left in regulation. However, this was the closest the hosts got as the Quakers won by eight points.

Ward led all scores with 27 points in addition to seven rebounds and two steals.

To start the game, both teams were scoreless until the 18:02 mark as Roanoke hit the first jumper. The lead was short lived as Jaylen Gore made a three on the ensuing possession.

Guilford held the out right lead until the Maroons tied (7-7) with 14:44 to go in the first. Ward broke the tie with a three as GC held at least a two point lead for a majority of the first until the hosts scored four-straight to close the first half. The Quakers were still in front, 33-32.

Tyler Dearman added 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals off the bench. The Quakers scored 36 points in the paint compared to 14 for Roanoke. GC also held advantage at the free throw line, shooting 12-17 (70.6%) while the Maroons went 6-10 (60%).

Guilford will conclude the regular season on Saturday, February 19 as Randolph-Macon visits on senior day. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
