The Guilford College women's basketball team made the trek to Ashland, Virginia to face the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets. The Quakers fell to the hosts, 83-59.
To open the game, Randolph-Macon (18-6, 16-2) scored the first seven points. Guilford (7-16, 5-13) slowly chipped away at the difference and pulled within two (11-9) after a layup from
Lindsay Gauldin.Â
The Yellow Jackets expanded its lead and led 22-15 at the end of first. R-MC grew its lead to 26-17 at the 8:21 mark until the Quakers scored nine-straight, including four from
J'la Hinson.
Both teams went back-and-forth until the hosts opened a six-point lead and went on to lead 36-32 at the break.
Out of the half, Randolph-Macon expanded the lead to nine (41-32) just a minute into the period. Guilford went on an 8-0 run before the Yellow Jackets took control. They scored 22 points over the next five minutes to lead 63-40 at the 1:29 mark. R-MC led by 23 (65-42) going to the final 10 minutes of regulation.
The fourth was tightly contested between both squads but the deficit proved too large. The Quakers ultimately fell by 24 points.
Lindsay Gauldin led GC with 20 points while
J'la Hinson added 12 points. The Quakers committed 19 turnovers compared to 10 for the Yellow Jackets.
Guilford will travel to Hollins University on Tuesday, February 22 for the first round of the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
