Women's Basketball Battle Hornets in Overtime

The Guilford College women's basketball team battled the Shenandoah Hornets Saturday afternoon. The Quakers and Hornets went into overtime where the Quakers fell to the Hornets, 52-47.

In the first period, Guilford (6-12, 4-9) was able to put the first two points on the board by Lindsay Gauldin. The Quakers kept the upper hand the whole first period but the Hornets (14-4, 9-4) were able to stay right behind them keeping the same momentum ending with 10-8. 

Opening the second quarter, Shenandoah took the lead at 8:36 by two but it wasn't for long as Ashtyn Zeigler made a three pointer for Guilford to put the score at 13-12. After that, the Quakers ended the first half in the lead, 22-17.

The third quarter is where it got a little rocky for the Quakers. The Hornets were able to put up 16  points while the Quakers only put up four by Zeigler and Gauldin allowing the Hornets to jump ahead seven (33-26).

Opening the fourth stanza, the Quakers were trailing behind by nine. J'la Hinson was able to close the gap by four with a jumper, 35-31. As both teams were going back and forth scoring points, with just 39 seconds on the clock, Guilford tied the game 39-39 with a jumper by Gauldin that led to overtime. 

Shenandoah opened up by scoring the first point in OT. Both teams were neck and neck , tying the game 47-47 with two minutes on the clock, Shenandoah finished out the game on a 5-0 run to win, 52-47. 

Gauldin paced the Quakers with a double-double18 points and 10 steals while also corralling eight rebounds. Zeigler added 12 points and three rebounds.

The Quakers shot 66.7% (8-21) from the charity stripe while the Hornets shot 58.3% (7-12). The Hornets out rebound the Quakers by five, 52-47.

Guilford will play at home on Wednesday night against Hollins. The start time will be at 7:00 p.m.
