Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Splits Road Tri-Match

The Guilford College women's volleyball team traveled to Misenheimer, N.C. for a tri-match against Pfeiffer University and Randolph College. The Quakers dropped the first match, 3-1 before topping Randolph in straight-sets, 3-0.

Game 1: Pfeiffer 3, Guilford 1

In the opening set, it was Pfeiffer that jumped out to an early lead and held that at the halfway point. Guilford began to chip away and eventually took the lead in the set, 20-17. Both squads began to exchange points until the Falcons notched the two final points to take the set 26-24.

The second was very similar to the first as Pfeiffer took early control and eventually expanded it to a lead of seven (18-11). Guilford pulled within three (19-16) and five (24-19) but the hosts were able to close out the set, 25-19.

Pfeiffer continued to take advantage of its strong starts to set and eventually led 17-10. After a service error, the Quakers went on a run of seven-straight points including two serving aces from Kaci Johnson. Tied at 17, the teams exchanged points until Guilford claimed five of the final six points including a block from Madison Duvall and Johnson to claim the set, 25-23.

The opening of the fourth was an even battle before the Quakers notched five-consecutive points to lead 11-8. The Falcons battled back and went ahead by two (13-11). Pfeiffer kept that advantage until Guilford evened the score at 18.

Pfeiffer regained the lead and pulled within one point of claiming the set and match. Two errors and a Paige McDonald kill placed the Quakers within one point (24-23). However, a kill from the Falcons won the set (25-23) and the match 3-1.

Game 2: Guilford 3, Randolph 0

Guilford won the first four points of the opening set and eventually led 7-1. GC opened the advantage to seven (11-4) before Randolph went on an 8-1 run to even the game at 12. The set became an exchange of runs with the Quakers recording a 7-1 stretch to lead 22-17. The WildCats pulled within one but an error and then a kill off the hand of Duvall won Guilford the set, 25-22.

After a bit of back and forth, Randolph found itself in front 6-5. GC responded with a 6-1 stretch to gain an 11-7 advantage. The WildCats won three-straight to pull within one (12-11) but the Quakers claimed 13 of the final 17 points to win the set, 25-15.

In the third, Guilford got out to an early 9-5 lead. Randolph pulled within one (12-11) before the Quakers rattled off eight of the next nine points to lead 20-12. GC held the eight-point advantage and was one point away from the win (24-16). The WildCats gave one last push, taking the next four points but a kill from Johnson closed out the set (25-20) and the match (3-0).

On the day, McDonald led the team with 20 kills while Hannah Stout added 17. Additionally, Maddi Page totaled 61 assists while Lydia Saunders tallied 15 digs.
