The Guilford College women's soccer team welcomed William Peace University to Armfield Athletic Center. An early goal in the second half helped the Quakers to a 2-1 win.
An even battle between the two squads kicked off the opening half before Guilford (3-0) started to take control. GC took five shots with three of them on goal.
In the 38th minute, the Quakers broke through as
Jenna Shotton scored off a pass from
Grace Overton. The final minutes were once again an even battle as Guilford led 1-0 as the halftime horn sounded.
The Quakers wasted little time in the second half as
Madison Green found the back of the net just 1:08 into the new half. GC held the two-goal advantage until the 55:27 mark when William Peace (1-1) got on the board.
Over the final 30-plus minutes, Guilford controlled possession and only allowed two shots on goal. As the 90th minute came, the Quakers won by the one-goal margin.
GC held advantage in shots on goal (8-6) while the Pacers took four corners compared to two for the Quakers. In goal,
Ady Franken made five saves, allowing the one goal in 90 minutes of action.
Guilford hosts Bob Jones University on Saturday, September 10. First kick is set for 11 a.m.
