Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Quakers Fall at Home to Royals

The Guilford College women's basketball team faced off against Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. The Quakers fell to the Royals, 78-69.

A rough start for Guilford (4-1, 1-1) as the game opened with Eastern Mennonite (4-4, 1-2) taking the lead. Unable to gain much momentum, Guilford was down, 21-10 following the opening 10 minutes.

As the second quarter began, the Quakers were playing catch-up for the majority of the time. Halfway through the quarter, GC started to show some life as Taylor Dunn hit a couple for distance. However, the Royals kept their lead and with a three made just nine seconds left in the half, they led 38-26 at the break.

The third quarter was where things started to get exciting. The game became very fast paced, with turnover after turnover taking place. Zoe Bayer was the star of the show with two three-pointers at the end of the quarter. The Quakers bested their opponent 17-14 in the quarter but still trailed overall, 52-43.

The fourth quarter was just as intense as the third. With about two minutes left in the game, Guilford went on an 11-4 run but that was not enough to gain the lead. GC fell short, 78-69.

Key players in the game include Taylor Dunn and Amara Harrell with double-digit points of 17 and 10, respectively. Anna Giannopoulou contributed with four steals and eight rebounds while Carleigh Perry achieved four rebounds and helped with six assists.

Guilford hits the road next to Roanoke, Virginia on Wednesday, December 6 to face Hollins University. The game is set for 7:00 p.m.
