Quakers Fall Short in ODAC Quarters

The Guilford College women's basketball team faced the Randolph College WildCats in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament. After a tightly contested battle, WildCats edged out the Quakers, 65-59.

In the opening period, it was a struggle for both offenses. Randolph used a 8-2 run to capture a three-point (11-8) edge. Guilford responded by closing the period with eight of the final 11 points to lead 16-14 going to the second.

The WildCats start the second hot as they went on a 9-3 run to open a 23-19 lead with 6:07 left in the half. A three by Amara Harrell and back-to-back layups from Carleigh Perry gave the Quakers a three-point edge, 26-23.

Randolph hit a layup with 41 seconds left. Guilford held the slim lead at the break, 26-25.

To open the third, the Quakers scored eight of the first ten points including threes from Ashtyn Zeigler and Perry. However, trailing 34-27, the WildCats made their charge.

Randolph went on a 13-1 run to capture a five-point (40-35) lead with 2:35 left in the third. Guilford closed the period with two layups to trail only one with 10 minutes of regulation remaining.

In the fourth, it was a seesaw affair as both offenses started to come to life. Unfortunately, the closest the Quakers came to tying the game was one point. Each time GC seemed to whittle down the difference, Randolph made its free throws to secure the six-point victory.

The Quakers were paced by Lindsay Gauldin who finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Perry added 13 points while Anna Giannopoulou scored 11 points.

Guilford finishes the 2022-23 season with a record of 20-6 and 13-5 in ODAC play.
