Softball and Knights Split Doubleheader

The Guilford College softball team took on the Southern Virginia Knights. The Quakers managed to split the games with a 5-4 win and a 6-1 loss. 

Game 1: Guilford 5, Southern Virginia 4

The first game started off with the Knights getting on the board first in the first inning with two runs on four hits. The Quakers were able to answer in the fourth inning with Faith Fennel hitting a single to center field, driving in two runs.

The seventh inning was filled with runs for both teams. In the top of the seventh, Southern Virginia recaptured the lead with two runs.

In the bottom half of the inning, Abbie Hill hit an RBI single to make the score 4-3. Ally Morales followed with a ground out to second base as Kassidy Lancos scored. After walk by Lani Procell, Alli Clemens stepped up to the plate and drove in the winning run.


Game 2: Southern Virginia 6, Guilford 1

The Quakers struggled to score in the second game while the Knights repeated their feat in the first game with two runs in the opening frame.

After another run in the third for SVU, Guilford notched its first run in the fifth of an RBI double from Ally Morales. The Quakers were not able to maintain momentum as the visitors scored three more in the sixth to secure the win.


Guilford will travel to Salem College on Saturday, March 11 at 1 pm in Winston-Salem, N.C.
