The Guilford College women's tennis team hosted Hollins University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. As the match came down to the final set, the Quakers fell 5-4.
In doubles action, the team of
Ashley Belnap and
Jolie Nhouyvanisvong claimed the first matchup, 8-4. At second doubles,
Hannah Pardue and
Nya Reed were victorious, 8-2.
At singles, Belnap and Nhouyvanisvong picked up two wins for the Quakers. Belnap won No. 2 singles by the scores of 6-3, 6-4 while Nhouyvanisvong won No. 3 singles, 6-0 and 6-2.
The deciding match was No. 4 singles between Reed and Hollins' Carlia Kearney. Reed won the first in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4). The second set was back-and-forth action but Kearney pulled out the 6-4 win and forced a third and final set.
As the sun began to set and light was becoming an issue, the two players pushed on. Unfortunately, it was the visitors who got the better hand winning 6-2 and claiming the overall 5-4 win.
Guilford is set to travel to Averett University on Saturday, March 11. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
