The Guilford College baseball team looked to extend its recent winning streak against Ferrum College. The Quakers bested the Panthers, 10-2 and improved the streak to five.
The game was scoreless for the opening two innings until the top of the third when Ferrum pushed the first run across home.
The Panthers held the lead until the bottom of the fourth when
Allden Horne scored on an error.
Colin Smith followed when he scored on another error as Guilford gained the 2-1 edge.
In the following inning, the Quakers scored five runs on four hits led by a two-RBI single off the bat from
Nick Boles.Â
The Guilford pitching between
Jackson Marcellus and
Jacob Phillips held the visitors in check. The duo preserved the six-run edge until the bottom of the eighth.
In the inning, GC added three more runs highlighted by the two-RBI from
Grayson Tudor. Ferrum added a run in the top of the ninth as the Quakers went on to win by eight runs.
Boles and
Rylan Smith led the team with two hits as Boles also drove in two runs. Marcellus picked up the win, tossing six innings and allowing just one run (earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Guilford hits the road on Saturday, April 15 for a doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite. Game one is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
