Softball Falls on Senior Day

The Guilford College softball team hosted the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets. The Quakers fell to the Yellow Jackets in both games, 4-0 and 4-3.

Game 1: Randolph-Macon 4, Guilford 0

In the opener, Randolph-Macon set the tone real quick with a double followed by a single. A single through the right side put the Yellow Jackets in from, 2-0.

Later in the first, the visitors scored on more run, this time off a single through the left side.

Neither side was able to score in the second until the top of the third when Randolph-Macon went ahead by four with another RBI single.

Guilford's best chance came in the bottom of the sixth when it had runners on the corners with one out. Unfortunately, the home squad was not able to capitalize and eventually fell by the 4-0 final.

Game 2: Randolph-Macon 4, Guilford 3

The Yellow Jackets wasted little time grabbing the lead with a sacrifice fly to right field. In the bottom of the first, Guilford was able to find the home plate as Abbie Hill scored on a Grace Calus sacrifice fly.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out in the inning, Ally Morales lifted a ball over the right field fence to give the Quakers a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was short lived as the visitors hit a solo homer of their own to tie the game at two. A couple of at-bats later, Randolph-Macon reclaimed the lead with an RBI single.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Shiloh Gray led the inning off with a single and was pinch ran for by Nicole Gumula. A wild pitch and an unoccupied base, Gumula advanced all the way to third on the play.

During the same at-bat, another wild pitch was thrown as Gumula broke for home and safely slide in to even the game at three.

However, the ranked Yellow Jackets battled back and with another home run, went back in front by one (4-3).

The Quakers tried to rally in the seventh but was unsuccessful in the attempt.

Gray started for GC and pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on nine hits. Morales finished the game going 3-4 with one run and RBI.

Guilford awaits the seeding of the ODAC Tournament to find out its opponent in the postseason.
