Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Nearly Perfect on the Road

The Guilford women's volleyball team battled it out in two away games against Boyce College and Bob Jones University. The Quakers claimed victory in both matches, 3-0 and 3-1, respectively.

Game 1: Guilford 3, Boyce 0

Right off the bat, the match opened with a kill by Vanessa Johnson. The teams traded the lead multiple times throughout the contest. With a score of 13-16, the Quakers took a timeout that changed the course of the set, coming back with a five and four-point run, reclaiming their lead and winning 25-18.

Similar to set one, the second began with Boyce and Guilford neck and neck as they kept exchanging the lead, down to the last point. The score was tied at 24 when Guilford's very own Natalie Moore captured two kills, claiming victory 26-24.

In set three, Guilford went on a seven-point run, early in the game. The Bulldogs responded with valiant effort, but were never able to catch up to the Quakers. This resulted in yet another Guilford win 25-20, securing the match 3-0.

Game 2: Guilford 3, Bob Jones 1

Guilford showed up with some determination in game two against the Bob Jones Bruins. The Quakers started with a lead and never let it go for the whole set, dominating 25-17.

The second set opened with the Bruins leading just inches ahead of the Quakers. Shortly after tied at 11, Boyce went on a seven-point run, leaving Guilford to fall short in set two, 25-16.

In set three, the two teams exchanged small runs, tied early in the game at seven, then again later in the set at 17. Not backing down, the last four points of the game were achieved from a four-point Guilford streak, winning 25-20.

The Quakers fell behind for most of set four, at one moment, five-points behind the Bruins. However, looking to put an end to the match, Guilford slowly inched its way back to a tie at 22 before taking the lead. The contest ended 25-23 with the last two points being kills from Moore and Paige McDonald.

Natalie Moore totaled 20 kills for GC as Chrisbel Alcantara finished with a respectable ten. Additionally, Maddi Page achieved 39 assists throughout the match and the Quakers dominated in blocks 6-3 against the Bruins. Page was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Guilford is set to play Greensboro College on Tuesday, September 19 in the Ragan-Brown Field House at 7:00 p.m.
