Women's Rugby Opens 2023 Season

The Guilford College Women's Rugby team opened their season at Emory & Henry on Sunday, September 17. The Quakers played three matches in round-robin fashion, versus the hosts, the Warren Wilson Owls and the Newberry College Wolves. The Quakers finished the weekend going 2-1 against the opposition.

On the weekend, the team recorded 39 Tackles, 28 >5 meter carries, four forced turnovers, 26 defenders beaten, and nine tries scored. Jasmine Cartwright was named Player of the Tournament.

On the weekend as a whole, Quaker Head Coach Christine Newcomb commented that it was a "great start to the season. We spread the love on attack with a variety of try scorers and constant support throughout the day. On defense we saw some big hits from everyone including some dominating forced turnovers. We are looking forward to continued growth on and off the field".

Guilford travels to Newberry, South Carolina for their next rugby tournament at Newberry College. Play begins on Sunday, October 1.
